Volleyball Sweeps Desert to Complete Road Trip

The Pirates' volleyball team completed their second sweep of the opening weekend Saturday, defeating College of the Desert 25-13, 25-18, 25-15. Kayla Murdoch led the way with 16 kills and a pair of blocks while Kylie Ibbotson recorded nine winners with a .750 hitting percentage and two blocks at the net. Ashley Johnson handed out 20 assists and Skylar Rutherford had 10 helpers while Autumn Rojelio led the defense with 17 digs and three service aces.

One day after scoring on 82 percent of their serves, the Pirates produced winners on 57 percent of their serves Saturday afternoon against the Roadrunners, including eight aces as a team with Rojelio and Johnson serving three and two, respectively.

Brianna Morrison led the Pirate defense at the net with three blocks while Murdoch and Ibbotson each had a pair.

VC next travels to Pasadena on Wednesday Aug. 30 before their home opener on Friday Sept. 1 against Orange Coast.
