The VC volleyball team completed the best regular season in school history on Tuesday with a strong 25-14, 25-22, 29-27 sweep over Western State Conference South Division champion College of the Canyons at the Athletic Event Center. Kayla Murdoch recorded a double-double with 20 kills and 13 digs and Nevada Knowles dished out a season-high 36 assists as the WSC North champs took down the Cougars for the second time this season.

Ventura (22-1) was on point early on, taking the first set 25-14 in the WSC crossover match featuring the two divisional champions.

Canyons showed signs of life in the second set, but the Pirates were still able to prevail 25-22 to gain complete control of the match.

The Cougars fought hard in the third set, perhaps thinking of their five-set playoff win at the Athletic Event Center a year ago, but the Pirates were not to be denied. VC captured the final set with extra points for the sweep, 29-27.

Autumn Rojelio Moreno led the defensive effort with 17 digs while Knowles and Kylie Ibbotson each had eight digs. Averi Carter finished with seven kills and Katey Mulville had six winners and a team-best .333 hitting percentage. Ibbotson chipped in with five kills.

Murdoch added three service aces to her impressive night and Rojelio Moreno hit a pair of aces.

The Pirates will now await their playoff seed and a first round bye on Saturday Nov. 19. VC will likely be back in action at home on Tuesday Nov. 23.
