13-Game Win Streak Ends for Volleyball at SBCC

The Pirate volleyball team had its 13-game winning streak come to an end Friday with a 25-23, 29-25, 25-20, 25-21 setback at Santa Barbara. Ventura, ranked No. 2 in the state, battled throughout but had a difficult night at the net hitting .162, their second-lowest total of the season. Nevada Knowles had another triple-double of 18 kills, 21 assists and 13 digs while Kayla Murdoch recorded 15 winners with nine digs and three block assists. Autumn Rojelio Moreno led the defense with 26 digs.

The Pirates battled in the opening set before falling 25-23.  They came back in the second with a 25-19 triumph to even the match. 

SBCC then prevailed in the third 25-20 before sealing the victory with a 25-21 fourth-set clincher.

Kylie Ibbotson and Katey Mulville had seven and six kills, respectively while Amelie Zubia led the team with 24 assists to go along with 15 digs. Averi Carter had 10 digs and five kills and Brianna Morrison recorded four blocks at the net.

Ventura (13-1, 1-1) will look to start a new win streak on Wednesday Oct. 5 at Los Angeles Pierce.
