Ventura Beats Pierce, Climbs into First Place Tie

The VC volleyball team defeated Los Angeles Pierce 25-8, 25-10, 23-25, 25-13 Friday in Woodland Hills behind 12 kills for Victoria Whitney and 34 assists from Nevada Knowles. That victory, coupled with Moorpark's 5-set loss to Santa Barbara puts the Pirates, Raiders and Vaqueros in a virtual tie atop the Western State Conference North Division standings with one week remaining in the regular season.

VC (16-5, 7-2), had an easy time with the Brahmas in the first two sets, winning while allowing eight and 10 points, respectively.

Pierce came back in the third to take a set from the Pirates 25-23 before Ventura closed things out in the fourth, 25-13.

Katey Mulville and Chloe parker had seven and six kills, respectively, while Alexis Baloyo and Kenobi Donart recorded four winners each. Savannah Marchese had 11 digs to lead the defense and Averi Carter had six. Carter also recorded four service aces while Knowles, Marchese and Amelia Zubia each had a pair of aces.

Ventura and Moorpark are now tied a the top of the WSC North Division standings with 7-2 records while Santa barbara is a half game behind at 6-2. VC and MC have one conference game remaining while SBCC will play two in the coming week.

The Pirates close out their WSC North schedule at home on Wednesday Nov. 10 against Los Angeles Mission College at 6:00 pm.
