Ventura Sweeps Past LA Mission

The Ventura College volleyball team continued rolling on Friday evening, sweeping past Los Angeles Mission College 25-16, 25-17, 25-22 in San Fernando. Alexis Baloyo and Nevada Knowles each had seven kills while Averi Carter and Katey Mulville each had six winners to lead the balanced attack. Amelie Zubia had 10 assists and four services aces for Ventura (12-3, 4-1).

The Pirates were in control for the entire match, taking the first set 25-16 before producing a similar 25-17 triumph in the second. The Eagles showed some signs of life in the third set, but VC was able to take the set 25-22 to preserve the sweep.

Knowles had another multi-faceted performance with seven kills, 14 assists and four digs while Baloyo was strong at the net with seven kills and defensively with nine digs. Mulville had six winners and three blocks at the net and Carter also recorded six kills. Amaris Garcia was strong defensively with nine digs and Miranda DeBeary had four blocks.

The Pirates, who are in a three-way tie for first place in the Western State Conference North Division with Moorpark and Santa Barbara, have a stern non-conference test at Bakersfield on Tuesday Oct. 19 before returning home against the Raiders on Friday Oct. 22.
