The Pirates' women's volleyball team had an outstanding effort Friday in sweeping visiting Cuesta 25-20, 25-21, 25-12 to move ever-closer to the program's third straight post-season appearance. Morgan Gallagher led the effort with 10 kills and 12 digs while Brooklyn Wallet had nine winners. Raphaella Rosales recorded eight kills, 11 digs and a pair of service aces for VC (11-9, 6-2) while Kassidy Wilson handed out 23 assists. Leslie Perez contributed 21 digs to lead the defense.

Shantalle Ruiz also posted eight kills and two blocks in the match while Vanessa Ihrke and Tatum Teel added five kills each to the balanced attack. Teel also added a pair of blocks and Gabby Boado passed 17 assists.

The victory, Ventura's seventh in its last nine outings, secures no worse than second place in the Western State Conference North Division. It also lines Ventura up for an at-large berth in the Southern California Regional Playoffs beginning later this month.

VC has a pair of make-up matches coming up, beginning with LA Pierce's visit to the Athletic Event Center on Wednesday Nov. 13. That make-up of the Oct. 11 contest will be followed by Santa Barbara's visit to Ventura, making up an Oct. 30 match, on Friday Nov. 15 in the regular season finale. Both contests begin at 6:00 pm.
