The Ventura College volleyball team has faced some stern challenges early this season. But none perhaps were as challenging as their trip to state No. 8-ranked Bakersfield College on Wednesday. Unfortunately, the Pirates dropped the straight-set match, 25-20, 25-12, 25-11. Morgan Gallagher led the way with six kills, eight digs and a pair of service aces while Tatum Teel had six winners and a .500 hitting percentage. Kassidy Wilson handed out 15 assists.

Leslie Perez led the defense with nine digs and Raphaella Rosales recorded six digs and two aces. Brooklyn Wallet produced four winners at the net with a pair of aces.

Ventura (4-6) will attempt to right the ship at home on Friday Sept. 20. They host College of the Canyons at 6:00 pm in their final match before Western State Conference play begins.
