Volleyball Rebounds in Nightcap of Pirate Quad

The Ventura College volleyball team rebounded in the nightcap of Friday's VC Pirate Classic Quad defeating Victor Valley 25-12, 25-12, 25-13 after falling to Imperial Valley earlier in the day at the Athletic Event Center. Morgan Gallagher led VC with 16 kills while Tatum Teel had 15 kills and six service aces on the day. Brooklyn Wallet recorded 11 point-winners while Leslie Perez anchored the defense with 49 digs in the two matches. Kassidy Wilson and Gabby Boado handed out 27 and 25 assists, respectively.

Ventura 0, Imperial Valley 3 (25-20, 25-22, 25-20)

In a match that was closer than the 3-0 sweep would indicate, the Pirates battled from behind most of the match.

The Lady Arabs jumped out to a 7-2 advantage early, and led 18-9 before the Pirates mounted a comeback. VC trailed 24-12 at one point before coming back to fall 25-20 in the first set.  The second set was much closer with the Pirates holding a 14-13 lead before IVC called a timeout. The break worked for Imperial, and they took an 18-16 lead before claiming the set, 25-22.

In the final frame, Ventura fell behind 10-4 before narrowing the gap to 14-12. Imperial maintained their advantage, however, taking the decider, 25-20.

Gallagher led Ventura with 14 kills and Raphaella Rosales hit eight kills with 14 digs defensively. Wallet had seven winners and Teel recorded six kills, posting an efficient .357 hitting percentage. Shantalle Ruiz also had six kills. Perez had 32 digs and Boado handed out 20 assists. Wilson recorded 12 helpers. 

Ventura 3, Victor Valley 0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-13)

Ventura bounced back in the nightcap to sweep Victor Valley 25-12, 25-12, 25-13. Teel led the attack with nine kills and she contributed four service aces. Victoria Whitney had six kills with an impressive .667 hitting percentage. She also had three service aces.  Wallet and Vanessa Ihrke each had four kills and Irhke recorded five digs. Wilson passed to 15 assists while Julia Stalker had 13 assists and six digs. Perez anchored the defense with 17 digs.

Ventura returns to the court on Wednesday Sept. 11 at Orange Coast College for a 6:00 pm match.
