Freshman libero Faith Mackie, freshman middle Brooklyn Wallet, and head coach Brad Lyans headed the Pirate volleyball team's list on honorees when the Western State Conference North Division awards were announced last week. Mackie was named the WSC North Libero of the Year, Wallet earned first team All-WSC honors, and Lyans was awarded the Co-Coach of the Year after leading the Pirates to their first conference championship in 13 years.

Meanwhile, sophomore opposite Janessa Simental and freshman outside hitter Morgan Gallagher earned second team All-WSC distinction and freshman opposite Shantalle Ruiz and freshman setter Gabby Boado were named Honorable mention all-conference.

Mackie was the heart and soul of the team all season. She led the conference in digs/set with 6.33, anchoring the Pirate defense. Wallet, meanwhile, keyed the Pirates offense in the middle, earning places among the conference leaders in kills/set (1.90), service aces/set (0.33) and blocks/set (0.47) in VC's eight conference matches.

For Lyans, it is his second WSC North Division Coach of the Year Award, also earning the distinction in 2014. This season, he led VC to a 7-1 WSC North record and an overall mark of 18-5. The Pirates won their first conference title since 2005, and earned their first playoff victory since 2003.
