Spikers Power Past Antelope Valley in Four

Ventura freshman Kasie Spencer had 18 kills and 14 digs to lead the Pirates past Antelope Valley in four sets at the AEC Friday.

Behind a strong performance by freshman Kasie Spencer, the Pirate volleyball team powered past visiting Antelope Valley 23-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-13. The Foothill Tech product had a season-high 18 kills while hitting at a .293 clip and added 14 digs in the VC victory. Brooklyn Wallet had 12 kills, Faith Mackie added 19 digs and Raphaella Rosales had 30 assists for the Pirates (8-3), winners of seven of their past eight matches.

Ventura had things well in hand in the first set before an Antelope Valley run closed the score in a hurry. A seven point VC advantage evaporates and the Marauders took the set, 25-23.

The Pirates came back to even things up in the second set, 25-22, before outlasting AVC in the third, 25-23.

Ventura's energy and conditioning played out in the fourth set as then pulled away form the visitors, claiming the set 25-13, and the match 3-1.

Shantalle Ruiz and Janessa Simental added eight and seven kills, respectively while Madeline Bolish and Morgan Gallagher each added five winners. Gabby Boado handed out 25 assists in the match and Wallet added five blocks. 

Ventura opens Western State Conference North Division play on Wednesday Oct. 3 at Santa Barbara City College. The match is slated to begin at 6:00 pm an the SBCC Sports Pavilion.
