  • Mackie Named All-SoCal Region by CCCWVCA
    December 27, 2018
    The accolades continue to come in for the Ventura College volleyball team as libero Faith Mackie has been named to the All-Southern California Regional team by the California Community College Women's Volleyball Coaches Association. The Foothill Tech product led the Western State Conference and was fourth in the state in digs per set as she led the Pirates to their best season in 15 years.
  • Mackie, Wallet, and Coach Lyans Lead VC Volleyball in WSC Awards
    December 05, 2018
    Freshman libero Faith Mackie, freshman middle Brooklyn Wallet, and head coach Brad Lyans headed the Pirate volleyball team's list on honorees when the Western State Conference North Division awards were announced last week. Mackie was named the WSC North Libero of the Year, Wallet earned first team All-WSC honors, and Lyans was awarded the Co-Coach of the Year after leading the Pirates to their first conference championship in 13 years.
  • Volleyball Season Ends at Top-Ranked Irvine Valley

    The Pirates did not go down without a fight. The No. 9-seeded Ventura College volleyball team dropped the CCCAA SoCal Regional Final at No. 1 Irvine Valley 26-16, 25-18, 26-24. Shantalle Ruiz had 10 kills to lead the way for Ventura (18-5) while Morgan Gallagher and Kelly Rodriguez each recorded six winners. Faith Mackie had 22 digs as VC closed its best volleyball season in 15 years.
  • Spikers Come Back From the Brink to Capture Playoff Victory
    November 20, 2018
    The Ventura College volleyball team was on the brink of elimination. VC faced match point as the Orange Coast College Pirates were serving, ahead 24-23, but a pair of long returns gave Ventura new life and a 25-24 advantage. No. 9-seeded Ventura went on to capture the fourth set, then the fifth to capture the program's first playoff victory under the direction of sixth-year head coach Brad Lyans, 25-23, 16-25, 25-27, 28-26, 15-13 in Costa Mesa. Kelly Rodriguez had 15 kills and Faith Mackie recorded 37 digs to help propel the VC Pirates (18-4) to victory.
  • Pirate Volleyball Seeded No. 9 in SoCal Regional Playoffs
    November 15, 2018
    Fresh off their first Western State Conference North Division championship in 13 years, the Ventura College volleyball team received the No. 9 seed in the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs Thursday. The Pirates (17-4) will travel south to Costa Mesa to battle the Orange Coast College Pirates (21-5) who received the No. 8 seed in the draw, on Tuesday Nov. 20. OCC defeated Ventura in three sets in the first match of the season on Aug. 29.
  • Pirates Win at Moorpark, Claim WSC Crown
    November 14, 2018
    There was a carefully planned impromptu dance party outside of Raider Pavilion at Moorpark College Wednesday in celebration of the Pirate volleyball team's first Western State Conference championship since 2005. Earlier in the evening, VC defeated Moorpark in four sets going away, 21-25 25-23 25-15 25-16, to finish the year with a 7-1 conference mark, besting the Raiders and the rest of the field on their way to the top. Faith Mackie had 27 digs and Morgan Gallagher recorded 13 kills to lead the way for VC (17-4, 7-1).
  • Pirates Fall to Cuesta in Home Finale
    November 07, 2018
    The Pirate volleyball team had their 11-match winning streak come to an end Wednesday night as they fell to visiting Cuesta College in four sets, 25-20, 22-25, 25-16, 25-15. Morgan Gallagher led the Pirates with 16 kills while Raphaella Rosales handed out 23 assists. Faith Mackie had 20 digs for Ventura (16-4, 6-1), as the Pirates fell into a first place tie with Moorpark. VC heads to play the Raiders in the season finale on Friday Nov. 9 in a match-up for the Western State Conference North Division title.
  • Volleyball Stays the Course with Win at Hancock
    November 02, 2018
    The Ventura College volleyball team stayed the course with a 25-21, 25-19, 25-13 victory over Allan Hancock College Friday in Santa Maria. Kelly Rodriguez had nine kills and two blocks to lead the way while Shantalle Ruiz recorded eight winners and three blocks. Faith Mackie had 18 digs and Raphaella Rosales handed out 19 assists as VC (16-3, 6-0) remained atop the Western State Conference standings with its 11th consecutive victory.
  • VC Handles Business With Santa Barbara in Four
    October 26, 2018
    After a slow start, the Pirate volleyball team handled business with visiting Santa Barbara, defeating the Vaqueros in four sets, 16-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-13 Friday night at the Athletic Event Center. Morgan Gallagher brought the hammer with 15 kills and Brooklyn Wallet had nine kills, four blocks and three services aces to pace the Pirates, who all-but eliminated the six-time defending conference champions from a seventh title.
  • Ventura Makes It Nine Straight With Sweep
    October 24, 2018
    The Ventura College volleyball team continued its winning ways with a three-set sweep of visiting West Los Angeles Wednesday at the Athletic Event Center, 25-14, 25-10, 25-21. Kayla Hosch was a perfect 6-6 on kill attempts to lead the Pirates and Shantalle Ruiz also recorded six winners. Kelly Rodriguez and Vanessa Ihrke each had five kills as Raphaella Rosales paced the offense with 24 assists. Faith Mackie had 15 digs and three service aces for Ventura (14-3, 4-0), which posted its ninth consecutive victory.
  • Mackie Named State Player of the Week
    October 23, 2018
    VC volleyball freshman Faith Mackie has been named the State Player of the Week for Southern California by the California Community College Women's Volleyball Coaches Association. The libero from Foothill Tech High School has keyed the Pirates' back line all season, and her outstanding defense helped VC move into first place in the Western State Conference standings in the past week with a win over rival Moorpark College.
  • Volleyball Makes It Eight Straight Wins With Sweep
    October 19, 2018
    The Pirate volleyball team made it eight straight victories Friday night, and 12 wins in the last 13 matches, defeating Glendale on the road with a tight 25-23, 29-27, 25-23 decision. Morgan Gallagher and Brooklyn Wallet led the offensive attack with nine kills each while Vanessa Ihrke had eight winners. Faith Mackie was key on the back line once again with 29 digs and Kelly Rodriguez recorded 14 digs for the Pirates (13-3, 4-0).
  • Pirates Dig Victory Over Moorpark
    October 17, 2018
    In the biggest volleyball match in the Athletic Event Center in over a decade, the Pirates defeated No. 10-ranked Moorpark in four sets, 25-17, 25-18, 22-25, 25-14 to take control of the Western State Conference North Division through one round of conference play. Faith Mackie keyed the victory from the back line with 23 digs, many in spectacular fashion, and a perfect 3.00 pass rating with 11 attempts on the night. As a team, VC (12-3, 4-0) controlled the serve, recording 15 services aces on the Raiders.
  • Spikers Sweep at Cuesta, Set Up WSC North Showdown
    October 12, 2018
    The Pirate volleyball team made the trek to San Luis Obispo Friday, coming home with a 25-22, 25-17, 29-27 sweep over host Cuesta College. Shantalle Ruiz led the way with seven kills and three blocks and Faith Mackie had 25 digs. Raphaella Rosales turned in 17 assists as Ventura (11-3, 3-0) set up a first place showdown with Moorpark at the VC Athletic Event Center on Wednesday Oct. 17 at 7:00 pm.
  • Pirates Sweep Hancock for Fifth Straight Win
    October 10, 2018
    The Pirate volleyball team made easy work of visiting Allan Hancock College Wednesday at the Athletic Event Center, sweeping their way to a 25-13, 25-18, 25-23 victory over the Bulldogs. Brooklyn Wallet led Ventura (10-3, 2-0) with 12 kills while Shantalle Ruiz and Kayla Hosch recorded eight and five winners, respectively. Gabby Boado handed out 20 assists and Kasie Spencer had eight digs for the victors.
  • VC Defeats Santa Barbara in Five Sets to Open WSC
    October 03, 2018
    The Pirate volleyball team traveled up the coast Wednesday evening, defeating Santa Barbara City College in a thrilling five-set match 25-19 19-25 26-24 17-25 25-9. The victory was a first for the Pirates over the Vaqueros since the 2007 season, a span of 20 straight contests. Brooklyn Wallet had 13 kills to lead VC (9-3, 1-0) while Shantalle Ruiz and Kasie Spencer had 10 and nine winners, respectively. Faith Mackie recorded 29 digs to anchor the Ventura defense in their Western State Conference opener.
  • Spikers Power Past Antelope Valley in Four
    September 28, 2018
    Behind a strong performance by freshman Kasie Spencer, the Pirate volleyball team powered past visiting Antelope Valley 23-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-13. The Foothill Tech product had a season-high 18 kills while hitting at a .293 clip and added 14 digs in the VC victory. Brooklyn Wallet had 12 kills, Faith Mackie added 19 digs and Raphaella Rosales had 30 assists for the Pirates (8-3), winners of seven of their past eight matches.
  • Another Happy Ride Home For Pirate Volleyball
    September 26, 2018
    The VC volleyball team had another long trip Wednesday coming home with a victory in hand. The Pirates traveled to San Diego Mesa College and pulled out a razor-close 25-23, 26-24, 25-23 win over the Olympians, making the three-hour ride home a pleasant one. Brooklyn Wallet led the attack with 11 kils with a .450 hitting percentage while Morgan Gallagher recorded nine winners. Shantalle Ruiz had eight kills and Gabby Boado handed out 22 assists. Faith Mackie led the defense with 20 digs.
  • Ventura Splits Pair of Matches Against NorCal Teams
    September 21, 2018
    The Ventura College volleyball team hosted a pair of Northern California opponents Friday, falling to Butte College in the afternoon before sweeping past Cañada College in the evening match. Morgan Gallagher led the way with 17 kills in the two matches while Kelly Rodriguez put down 10 winners on the day for Ventura (6-3). Faith Mackie recorded 32 digs over the two contests while Gabby Boado and Raphaella Rosales handed out 31 and 29 assists, respectively.
  • Pirates Cap Long Trip With Sweep of VVC

    The long trip home was a good one for the Pirate volleyball team Wednesday. The team made the trek to Victorville to take on host Victor Valley College, coming home with a 25-23, 25-11, 25-21 sweep of the Rams. Morgan Gallagher led VC with 13 kills while Brooklyn Wallet had eight winners and two blocks. Gabby Boado handed out 21 assists and Faith Mackie anchored the defense with 22 digs for Ventura (5-2).
  • Volleyball Sweeps Past Cal Lutheran JV
    September 14, 2018
    Brooklyn Wallet had 10 kills while Morgan Gallagher and Kasie Spencer each hit six point-winners as the Ventura College volleyball team swept past the Cal Lutheran JV's Friday at the Athletic Event Center. Gabby Boado and Raphaella Rosales passed out 17 and 15 assists, respectively as the No. 22-ranked Pirates (4-2) captured their third straight triumph.
  • Pirate Volleyball Outlasts Pasadena in 5-Set Win
    September 12, 2018
    The Ventura College volleyball team went on the road for the first time this season and outlasted host Pasadena City College in five sets to bring home the victory, 25-16, 18-25, 25-17, 23-25, 15-10. Morgan Gallagher led the No. 22-ranked Pirates (3-2) with 21 kills while Faith Mackie led the defense with 16 digs. Brooklyn Wallet had nine kills and five aces and Kelly Rodriguez recorded seven winners with 14 digs defensively. Raphaella Rosales also put up 14 digs.
  • Spikers Split Pirate Quad, Honor Kirra Drury
    September 07, 2018
    At the end of an emotional week, the Pirate volleyball team split a pair of matches Friday, falling to Fullerton in five sets and sweeping Golden West at the Athletic Event Center. Prior to the nightcap against the Rustlers, VC honored volleyball alumna Kirra Drury '14, who was killed a week earlier in a boat accident on the Colorado River near Lake Havasu.
  • Pirate Athletics Mourns Loss of Volleyball Alumna Kirra Drury
    September 06, 2018
    The Ventura College Athletic Department is mourning the loss of volleyball alumna Kirra Durry. The 24-year-old who prepped at St. Bonaventure High School and played on the 2013 and 2014 Pirate volleyball teams was killed in a boat accident on the Colorado River near Lake Havasu on Saturday.  She will be honored prior to the Pirates’ volleyball game Friday at 6:00 pm against Golden West College at the Athletic Event Center.
