Spikers Sweep Bulldogs in Final Regular Season Match

In her final home volleyball match, VC sophomore Braxton Jessie had 13 kills, 12 digs and four aces to lead Ventura past visiting Allan Hancock 25-10, 25-10, 25-15 Friday evening at the Athletic Event Center. Caryssa Castrejon recorded 13 digs, six kills and four aces as the Pirates (12-12, 3-5) finish tied for third in the Western State Conference North Division. VC will now wait for the Southern California seeding meeting to see if they will receive the program's third post-season bid in the past four years.

Daisy Martinez handed out 23 assists while sophomore Bryanna Lovingood recorded six kills for the Pirates in the win. Jordan Neria had six digs, and Maggie Morris and Janessa Simental each produced four digs in the match. Sophomore Carina Cates had a kill, a block and an ace against AHC. The Pirates' fourth sophomore, Taylor Benitez-Fanslow, has missed the past several matches due to a lingering injury.

The Pirates finish at an even .500 for the season at 12-12.  They plan to practice on Monday in hopes of making the 18-team playoff field that will be announced on Tuesday Nov. 14. The playoff begin on Tuesday Nov. 21.
