Volleyball Hits Pair of Ranked Teams at Canyons "Tri"

The VC volleyball team ran into a pair of ranked teams Friday in Santa Clarita at the College of the Canyons Triangular. The Pirates (7-4) fell to state No. 6 Canyons 25-18, 25-11, 25-12 in the first match of the day before falling to No. 18 Mira Costa in the nightcap, 25-11, 25-13, 25-22. Taylor Benitez-Fanslow recorded 11 kills, 20 digs and four blocks in the two matches. Daisy Martinez had 19 assists and Janessa Simental recorded 10 kills.

Ventura 0, Canyons 3 (25-18, 25-11, 25-12)
Benitez-Fanslow had seven kills and four blocks against the Cougars to lead Ventura. Simental had six kills and four digs and Caryssa Castrejon and Jordan Neria each had seven digs. Martinez handed out 10 helpers while Danielle Garcia had seven assists, four digs and a pair of aces.

Ventura 0, Mira Costa 3 (25-11, 25-13, 25-22)
Simental, Madeline Bolish, Bryanna Lovingood and Benitez-Fanslow all had four kills. Benitez-Fanslow also recorded 17 digs and Garcia had eight assists and 10 digs. Martinez recorded nine helpers.

Ventura will travel to Glendale on Tuesday Sept. 26 before hosting Long Beach and San Diego Mesa on Wednesday and Friday, Sept. 27 and 29.
