Pirate Spikers Fall In Four at Long Beach

The Ventura College women's volleyball team traveled to Long Beach Wednesday night, and could not come away with a win over the Vikings, falling in four sets, 25-14, 25-15, 23-25, 25-17.  Armonee Hunter led the Pirates with 12 kills while Mikayla Spears had 14 assists and six digs in the match.

VC went ahead 4-0 in the first set, but the Vikings responded by scoring 20 of the next 24 points to take control, taking the set 24-14.  The Pirates could not get untracked in the second, falling 25-15, but hit its stride in the third, defeating Long Beach 25-23.  The Pirates went ahead 5-0 early in the fourth set, but could not maintain the momentum as LBCC took the match.

Paris Dosch and Brianna Finch recorded six and five kills, respectively, and Rachel Howery handed out 11 assists. Sariah Flores led the defense with 17 digs, and Finch had six. Cristal Gonzalez had two service aces and five digs.

Ventura will return home on Wednesday Sept. 28 for a match against College of the Canyons.  Start time is set for 7:00 pm against the Cougars at the Athletic Event Center.
