Ventura College outside hitter, Brittney Mukhar and defensive specialist Cassandra Lacanilao have announced their intention to play volleyball and attend Johnson and Wales University in Denver, Colorado. The two signed their letters of intent on Friday afternoon at the VC Athletic Event Center in front of family, teammates and the VC volleyball coaching staff, Brad Lyans and Sabine Stork.
Mukhar, a product of Lancaster High School, transferred to VC from Antelope Valley College. After redshirting in 2014, she earned second-team All-Western State Conference honors for the Pirates in 2015. She led the team in most offensive categories, including kills per set (2.71), total swings (840), and kills (247), and was third on the team in hitting percentage among all active hitters (.167).
Lacanilao prepped at Rio Mesa High School and was named the team's best defensive player for two years. She was second-team All-WSC as a freshman and first-team All-WSC this past season. Cassandra was No. 7 in the state total digs (504), and ed the team with digs/set (5.54), which was the No. 8 mark in the state. She amde her mark on the VC record books, finishing No. 1 in career digs (898), No. 1 in career aces (87), No. 1 aces in a match (11), No. 2 digs in a season (504), and No. 2 for digs in a match (45).
Johnson and Wales University is an NAIA institution loacted in Denver, Colorado. The head volleyball coach is Buean High School graduate Lindsay Martin, whose father is the current volleyball coach at the school. Linsday played collegiately at Cal Poly San Luis Obiospo and was an assistant coach at Moorpark College before heading the Wildcats' program.
