For the second consecutive season, the Pirate volleyball team has earned a trip to the SoCal Regional Playoffs. Ventura (18-7) is seeded No. 13 and will travel to No. 4 Canyons (22-2) on Tuesday Nov. 24 for a 6:00 pm match in Santa Clarita.
The Pirates finished third in the Western State Conference North Division with a 7-5 record behind No. 1 Santa Barbara and No. 2 Los Angeles Pierce. Only three teams from the WSC North made the post-season field.
Canyons were a perfect 12-0 in the WSC South, claiming the conference championship.
Under third-year head coach Brad Lyans, the Pirates women's volleyball team has been reinvigorated. This is the second straight trip to the playoffs for VC under Lyans following a six-year absence. Ventura will face the tough task of traveling to CoC on Tuesday Nov. 24 to face off with the Cougars who were champions of the WSC-South division. Canyons.
Ventura started the year 5-0 before suffering their first loss. Following two losses in three matches, VC ran off a seven-game win streak before falling to then-state No. 1 Los Angeles Pierce. The Pirates ended a 17-match losing streak to Moorpark College late in the season to clinch third place ahead of the Raiders, securing the post-season berth.
With the success of the regular season in their rearview, the Pirates sets their focus now on making a run in the state playoffs beginning Tuesday evening in Santa Clarita.
