Volleyball Outlasts Pasadena For Road Victory

The Ventura College volleyball team came from behind to claim a five-set victory at Pasadena City College Wednesday, 25-22, 24-26, 22-25, 25-19, 15-8.  Paris Dosch had a strong outing at the net, claiming a team-high 19 kills while posting a .421 hitting percentage.  Mikayla Spears handed out 51 assists in the victory for VC (7-2).

The first set was basically even until a kill by Brittney Mukhar, and two kills from Armonee Hunter put VC ahead 18-14.  The Pirates were able to ride their margin out from that point, claiming a 25-22 win to take an early lead.

Ventura held a lead late in the second set before allowing the Lancers back into the match, falling 26-24.

Kills by Tori Hiott and Dosch gave the Pirates a 22-18 advantage in the third set before PCC score seven straight points to take control of the match, 25-22.

With their backs against the wall, the Pirates controlled the fourth set.  Mukhar and Hiott put down back-to-back kills to make the score 20-15 as Ventura rode it out to a 25-19 victory, forcing a decisive fifth set.

In the final set, the Pirates controlled from the onset, once again, taking advantage of Lancer attack errors en rout to claiming a 15-8 win, taking the match three sets to two.

Hiott had a solid all-around match with 14 kills, 16 digs and three service aces.  Mukhar recorded 13 kills, 16 digs, and three aces in the match while Hunter put down 16 kills.  Spears added an even dozen digs to her assist total and Cassandra Lacanilao led the Pirates with 39 digs.

Ventura returns home on Friday Sept. 18 for the VC Pirate Classic Quad.  The Pirates will battle Santa Monica at 2:00 pm, followed by a match with Fullerton at approximately 6:00 pm at the Athletic Event Center.
