The season of redemption came to a close Wednesday night on a high note for the Ventura College women's volleyball team.  VC (12-10, 6-6) defeated Los Angeles Mission in San Fernando 25-21, 25-16, 27-25 post the Pirates' best season since 2007 when they finished 12-9.

The Pirate sophomores led the way in the victory, with Mehgan Lambert recording eight kills and four blocks while Kirra Drury had six kills.  Freshman Cassandra Lacanilao had 13 digs for Ventura and Shelby Stanger handed out 23 assists while producing three service aces.

The Pirates finish the season with relevance again.  The once solid program finished above .500 for the first time in seven seasons, and recorded the most Western State Conference victories since its last WSC championship in 2005.  Although VC says goodbye to four sophomores - Lambert, Durry, Sarah Veloz and Makeda Pelle - the team should return a solid nucleus in 2015, ready to compete for the program's 10th conference title.

The Priates have turned the corner in their rebuilding efforts under second-year head coach Brad Lyans, and look for even more success in the years to come.
