Spikers Strong in Home Sweep of Cuesta

On the verge of their first winning season in seven years, the Ventura College volleyball team began the final round of conference play with a strong three-set win over visiting Cuesta College Wednesday night at the Athletic Event Center. Mehgan Lambert led the effort with 10 kills and 11 digs for the Pirates (10-7, 4-3).

Ventura captured a close first set 25-23 before distancing themselves from the Cougars in the second, 25-19.  They won the decisive set 25-14 to clinch the win.

Sarah Veloz had nine kills and 11 digs and Tori Hiott recorded seven kills.  Cassandra Lacanilao had 11 digs and Shelby Stanger handed out 28 assists.

The Pirates travel to Woodland Hills on Friday Oct. 31 for a date with Pierce College before heading home for their final home match of the season against Hancock on Wednesday Nov. 5.
