Following a long drive to San Luis Obispo, the Pirate volleyball team dropped its Western State Conference North Division opener at Cuesta College in four sets Friday night. Sarah Veloz led VC with 15 kills.
The Cougars took control of the match early with a 25-17 win in the first set, followed by a tight 25-23 win in the second. The Pirates showed some life in the third set, capturing it 25-22, but could not repeat the feat, falling in the fourth, 25-14.
Kirra Drury recorded three services aces for Ventura (6-5).
The Pirates will host No. 16 Pierce College in their next outing, Wednesday Oct. 8 at 7:00 pm at the Athletic Event Center.
