Pirates Unable to Turn Back Cougars at the Net

The Ventura College Pirate volleyball team was unable to come up with the signature win Friday, dropping their match against No. 18 College of the Canyons in three sets Friday at the Athletic Event Center, 25-15, 25-14, 25-21.  The loss was VC's third straight against ranked opponents.

Ventura (5-4) stayed close in the first set, trailing 16-12 before the Cougars pulled away for the win, 25-15.  CoC maintaine dthe momentum in the middle set.  The Pirates struggled, falling 25-14.  In the clinching set, Ventura got back on its ffet, and led most of the way until a late Canyons run put them over the top, 25-21.

Kirra Drury led VC with seven kills while Tori Hiott had six kills and two aces.

The Pirates travel to Citrus on Wednesday Oct. 1 for their finala conference tune-up before beginning Western State Conference play at Cuesta Friday Oct. 3.  Ventura will return home Wednesday Oct. 8 against Pierce College.
