Volleyball Drops Marathon Match in Long Beach

The Pirate volleyball team traveled to Long Beach City College Wednesday night, and after five long sets, were unable to come away with the hard fought victory, dropping the tight match 25-22, 20-25, 23-25, 26-24, 8-15.  Mehgan Lambert led VC (5-3) with 14 kills and Makeda Pelle contributed seven kills.

The Pirates won the first set 25-23 before the Vikings came storming back in the second, 25-20.  Ventura held a 22-20 lead late in the third set before LBCC came back to capture the win 25-23, and in the fourth, VC survived two match points before scoring the final four points of the set to take it 26-24.  LBCC took a 10-3 lead in the final set before registering the 15-8 victory.

Cassandra Lacanilao recorded 16 digs and Sarah Veloz had eight service aces.

The Piraets return home on Friday Sept. 26 to host the No. 18-ranked College of the Canyons Cougars at the Athletic Event Center.  The match is slated to begin at 7:00 pm.
