Spikers Split Pair at Pierce Quad

The Ventura College volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday at the Pierce College Quad in Woodland hills.  VC (2-1) lost to Chaffey in four sets in the opener before defeating Rio Hondo in four sets in the nightcap.

Ventura 1, Chaffey 3 (25-17, 21-25, 16-25, 20-25)
Sarah Veloz led the way for VC with 15 kills, posting a 43 percent hitting percentage.  Tori Hiott had nine kills and Cassandra Lacanilao registered 19 digs and four aces.

Ventura 3, Rio Hondo 1 (22-25, 25-18, 25-19, 26-24)
Kirra Drury had 20 kills, hitting at a .439 rate offensively.  She also had a pair of solo blocks on the defensive side of the net.  Hoitt totaled seven service aces and Lacanilao had 24 digs and seven aces.

The Pirates will open their home schedule on Wednesday Sept. 10 against Santa Monica.  the match is slated to begin at 7:00 pm at the Athletic Event Center.
