Sydney Morris had 8 kills and 13 digs to lead VC to a four-set victory at West Los Angeles Friday.

VOLLEYBALL:  A back and forth start turned into an excellent night when the Ventura College volleyball team defeated West Los Angeles on their own turf in four sets, 25-22, 17-25, 25-15, 25-6. Opposite hitter Sydney Morris, outside hitter Kirra Drury and middle blocker Makeda Pelle each put away eight kills and Morris led the team with 13 digs. Setter Dana Cleavenger handed out 32 assists in the Pirate victory.

As a whole, VC (2-15, 0-6) contributed to 27 aces on the night, each member adding a handful to the mix. The night progressively got better as Ventura dished out 10 aces in the final set. The front row was aggressive at the net adding to seven team blocks with the middles, Pelle and Gemma Stoll each adding their own solo blocks.

The win ends a 13 match losing streak during which the Pirates came painfully close to victory on numerous occasions. Their inconsistent play, especially when closing out sets contributed to the streak, and the Pirates improved greatly on that Friday night against the Wildcats.

The Pirates will return home on Wednesday Oct. 30 to face Los Angeles Mission College at 7:00 pm.
