VOLLEYBALL: Finally through a stretch of facing seven ranked teams in its first 10 matches, the Ventura College volleyball team came so close to a breakthrough victory at Los Angeles Mission College Friday in the Western State Conference opener for both teams. VC lost the match 3-1, but were only upended by a combined total of six points, 25-27, 21-25, 27-25, 25-27.Sydney Morris led the offense with 18 kills while Dana Cleavenger handed out 53 assists and recorded four service aces. Sarah Veloz had six aces and 26 digs defensively.
The Pirates will return home to take on Cuesta College on Wednesday Oct. 9. The match begins at 7:00 pm at the Athletic Event Center.
