Moga and DeRosa Qualify for State at WSC Tourney

Bella Moga advanced to the round of 32 in singles play, while Moga and doubles partner Bella DeRosa won their first match of the day Tuesday, qualifying for the 3C2A State Chamnpionships, as the Western State Conference Singles and Doubles Championships began at the VC Tennis Center.

Moga won her singles match against an opponent from Los Angeles Mission College, 8-2 sending her to the round of 32 on Thursday. 

VC's top singles player, Alexis Schmidt, received the No. 7 seed in the draw and moved to the second round of play with a bye.

DeRosa fell in her singles match, 8-4, to the No. 13-seed from Bakersfield while Chrystelle Aguiar had her season come to an end with an 8-2 defeat to another player from LA Mission. Beryllyn Paz also fell in the opening round of play Tuesday, 8-0, against an opponent from Glendale.

In doubles play, 12th-seeded Moga and DeRosa claimed their opening match 8-4 over a pair from Glendale before falling 8-3 against the No. 6 seed from LA Mission. Wit the victory, the Pirate duo qualified for the 3C2A State Championships at The Ojai Tournament later this month.

Ventura's other doubles pair, Aguiar and Paz, dropped their opening match to the No. 16-seeded team from College of the Canyons.

Play in the WSC Singles and Doubles Championships will continue on Thursday April 4 at the VC Tennis Center.
