The VC women's tennis team traveled to the High Desert Thursday, leaving Antelope Valley with a 7-2 victory over the Marauders in Western State Conference play. Bella DeRosa had a pair of comebacks in her singles match to win her second point of the day while Alexis Schmidt and Nicole Iannacone along with Bella Moga and DeRosa were all double winners for Ventura (7-9, 5-7).
Schmidt and Iannacone powered their way to an 8-5 win in No. 1 doubles while DeRosa and Moga claimed an 8-1 triumph in No. 2 doubles to put Ventura ahead 2-1 headed to singles play.
Moga had an easy time with her No. 3 singles match, winning one and love before Chrystelle Aguiar won the No. 5 singles match , 6-1, 6-4. Beryllyn Paz fell in No. 6 singles and AVC closed to within 4-2 when Schmidt clinched the Pirate victory with a 6-2, 6-1 win in No. 1 singles. DeRosa was down 3-0 in the first set of her No. 4 singles match, and down 4-1 in the second set, but came back twice to win with a sweep, 6-3, 6-4. Iannacone closed the day with a 6-4, 6-0 triumph at no. 2 singles.
VC will finish the regular season on Monday March 25 at Canyons and Tuesday March 26 at Glendale.
