Ventura Drops WSC Match at LA Mission

The Pirates' women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season Tuesday with a 6-3 decision at Los Angeles Mission College in Sylmar. Bella DeRosa and Bella Moga won their No. 2 doubles match while Alexis Schmidt and Moga earned points in singles play against the Eagles.

Mission took the early 2-1 advantage after doubles play with DeRosa and Moga claiming an 8-5 victory in the No. 2 slot to avoid the sweep for VC (3-1, 1-1).

LAMC went ahead 3-1 with a win at No. 4 singles before Moga pulled the Pirates back with a 7-5, 7-5 victory at No. 3. The Eagles took No. 5 singles, then Schmidt kept the match close with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph in No. 1 singles. Mission clinched the win with victories at Nos. 6 and 2 singles, respectively.

Ventura will return home on Thursday Feb. 15 for a Western State Conference match against College of the Canyons at 2:00 pm.
