Women's Tennis Drops Contest at Bakersfield

The VC women's tennis team dropped a contest at Bakersfield Tuesday, 6-3. The Pirates' Nos. 1, 2 and 3 singles players, Talia Lieb. Nell Elaerts and Alexis Schmidt all won their matches, but Ventura (1-3, 1-3) could not find any other points during the day.

The Pirates came close in doubles play, but could not complete a victory. Lieb and Elaerts dropped a narrow 9-8 decision at No. 1 and Schmidt and Marcie McTigue fell 8-6 at No. 2. Laura Rubio and Dee Emami also proved to be a competitive duo, but could not find a team point in their 8-5 setback.

Ventura came back in singles play, but their deficit was too great. Elaerts was dominant in No. 2 singles with a love and one victory and Lieb captured the No. 1 match, 6-2, 6-3. Schmidt came from behind to win at No. 3, 4-6, 6-3, 10-8.

The Pirates next host Los Angeles Mission College on Thursday Feb. 16 at 2:00 pm.
