The VC women's tennis team claimed their first victory of the year on Tuesday, defeating Glendale 5-4 at the VC Tennis Center. Talia Lieb and Elizabeth Nguyen each were double winners to lead Ventura (1-1, 1-1). Lieb teamed up with Nell Elaerts to win the No. 1 doubles match before prevailing in No. 1 singles. Nguyen, meanwhile, won in No. 2 doubles with Alexis Schmidt, then captured her No. 5 singles contest.
The Pirates took the early lead, winning two of the three doubles match-ups. Lieb and Elaerts captured their No. 1 match 8-5 and Schmidt and Nguyen triumphed 8-2.
In singles play, Belladora Moga won in straight sets in the No. 4 position, 6-2, 6-4 and Lieb came from behind to take the No. 1 singles match 4-6, 6-1, 6-4. Nguyen, meanwhile, gave VC the victory with her 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles.
Ventura next travels to Canyons on thursday Feb. 9 for a 2:00 pm match-up with the Cougars.
