Dever Qualifies For SoCal's in Singles

VC's Hanna Dever advanced to the quarterfinals of the WSC women's singles tournament Friday with a pair of wins. She also qualified for the Southern California Regionals to be played April 29-30.

Ventura College No. 1 singles player Hanna Dever prevailed in a pair of matches Friday to advance to the Western State Conference women's singles quarterfinals on Saturday. She also qualified to compete in the Southern California Regional Championships to be held April 29-30 at Cypress College.

Dever, the No. 9-seed in the draw, received a first round bye on Thursday and defeated an opponent from College of the Canyons in her first match Friday, 6-2, 6-2. She then came from behind in her second match against the No. 8-seed from Glendale, 2-6, 6-2, 10-5 to move on to Saturday's quarterfinals and qualify for regionals.

On other action in the women's singles draw for the Pirates, Alyssa McClain narrowly dropped her round of 32 match to the No. 16-seed from Bakersfield, 6-3, 6-7, 10-8.

Tanya Thompson also dropped her round of 32 match, as did Victoria Zegers.

The WSC Championships continue on Saturday April 2 at the VC Tennis Center. Dever will compete in her quarterfinal match at 10:00 am as the only VC player remaining in the draw.

In doubles play, McClain and Elizabeth Nguyen will play in one quarterfinal at 3:00 pm while Dever and Zegers will play in another at the same time.  Both remaining Pirate doubles teams have qualified for the Southern California Regionals.
