The VC women's tennis team avenged a loss earlier in the season with a 5-4 victory over Glendale Thursday at the VC Tennis Center. Elizabeth Nguyen, Alyssa McClain and Tanya Thompson all were double winners for the Pirates in the closely fought contest.
The Pirates took two of three doubles matches against the Vaqueros. McClain and Nguyen blanked their opponents in the No. 3 slot 8-0 while Thompson and Iskra Volic prevailed in No. 2 doubles 8-5.
In singles play, Ventura dominated the bottom half of the line-up, dropping just two games each in the Nos. 4, 5 and 6 slots. Nguyen won her No. 4 singles match 6-1, 6-1 and McClain won 6-0, 6-2. Thompson won her No. 6 singles contest 6-2, 6-0 for the Pirate victory.
Ventura (4-4, 3-4) next heads to Santa Clarita on Tuesday March 8 to take on College of the Canyons.
