VC freshman Hanna Dever won her No. 1 singles match for the Pirates' women's tennis team Thursday The Pirates defeated the Renegades 6-3.

The Pirate women's tennis team hosted Bakersfield on Thursday at the VC Tennis Center, coming away with their first conference win of the season 6-3 over the Renegades. Alyssa McClain and Dee Emami were all double winners for Ventura (2-2, 1-2), earning points in singles and doubles play.

VC took an early 2-1 lead in doubles play. Volic and Tanya Thompson No. 2 doubles match 8-6 while McClain and Emami prevailed in No. 3 doubles, 8-2.

McClain won her second point of the day in the No. 5 singles slot, 6-3, 6-2, and Emami claimed the No. 6 singles match 6-0, 6-2. Hanna Dever won in No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-4 and Elizabeth Nguyen won Ventura's other point, a 6-0, 6-2 triumph in No. 4 singles.

The Pirates continue Western State Conference play on Tuesday Feb. 15 at Los Angeles Mission College in San Fernando.
