Women's Tennis Opens 2022 with Narrow Defeat

Second-year freshman Ava Gallo earned a point for her victory in No. 6 singles, but the Pirates' women's tennis team dropped a narrow decision at Glendale, 5-4, Thursday afternoon in the 2022 season opener.

The VC women's tennis team narrowly lost its opening match of the 2022 season 5-4 at Glendale College Thursday afternoon. Hanna Dever won her No. 1 singles match and Ava Gallo prevailed in No. 6 singles while the duos of Tanya Thompson and Iskra Volic, and Alyssa McClain and Dee Emami earned victories at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles, respectively.

Ventura led 2-1 after doubles play. McClain and Emami made easy work of their opponents in the No. 3 slot, 8-0, and Thompson and Volic won at No. 2 doubles, 8-4.

Devers claimed her No. 1 singles match 6-2, 7-5 and Gallo won in No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-2. Thompson  (No. 4 singles) and Emami (No. 5 singles) both lost split decisions in a tiebreaker.

Ventura next hosts Mt. San Antonio on Saturday Feb. 5 at 12:00 pm at the VC Tennis Center.
