After a pair of matches against 4-year schools, the Pirates' women's tennis team came away victorious in their first JC competition defeating Antelope Valley 9-0 in Palmdale on Tuesday. Alyssa McClain and Victoria Zegers had the most dominant wins in singles at Nos. 4 and 2, respectively, while McClain and Tanya Thompson shut out their opponents in No. 2 doubles.
McClain won her No. 4 singles match love and one while Zegers prevailed one and one. Thompson triumphed in No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-3 and Isabella DeRosa won in No. 5 singles 6-4, 6-1. Erin Gaynor completed the sweep of singles play with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at the No. 1 slot.
In doubles, Gaynor and Zegers won the No. 1 match 8-5 while Thompson and McClain claimed the No. 2 contest 8-0.
The Pirates next travel to Mt. San Antonio on Thursday April 22.
