Women's Tennis Defeats San Diego, 7-2

Freshman Aline Rojas had a victory in No. 2 singles, helping the Pirates' women's tennis team to a 6-3 win over San Diego City Friday at the VC Tennis Center.

The VC women's tennis team defeated a shorthanded San Diego City 7-2 Friday afternoon at the VC Tennis Center. The Knights played with four players, giving VC points for No. 3 doubles and Nos. 5 and 6 singles before the first serve of the day. VC won four of the remaining six matches to claim the victory. Sylvie Van Cott, Aline RojasAllison Jones and Denissa Garcia all posted victories in singles for the Pirates (6-4, 3-4).

Play began with singles as Van Cott remained undefeated on the year with an easy love, love win at No. 1. Jones followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3 and Rojas prevailed at No. 2, 6-4, 6-0. Garcia dominated the first set and held on in the second to post a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 4.

With the match in hand, the Pirates played their doubles teams up one slot, allowing all the players to see action. Jones and Dee Emami dropped an 8-3 decision at No. 1 while Garcia and Isabella DeRosa fell at No. 2, 8-4.

VC continues Western State Conference play on Tuesday March 10 at home against College of the Canyons.
