Garland and Thompson Advance to The Ojai

The Pirates' women's tennis doubles team of Keressa Garland and Tanya Thompson qualified for the CCCAA State Championships at The Ojai Tournament at the Western State Conference Championships Friday and Saturday at the VC Tennis Center. After an opening round bye, the pair won their Round of 16 match against opponents from Antelope Valley, 8-3, to qualify for state. On Saturday the duo fell to the No. 2-seeded pair from Bakersfield 8-5.

In singles play, VC's No. 1 player Victoria Neumann won her Round of 32 against a player from Victor Valley 6-1, 6-0 on Friday. Saturday she dropped a 6-1, 7-5 decision to the No. 5-seed from Bakersfield before falling in the back draw to the No. 15-seed from Santa Barbara. Aliyah Amaya and Garland both won their Round of 64 matches on Friday before falling to seeded opponents in their next outing. Thompson, Cali Iadevaia and Denissa Garcia all had their singles seasons come to an end on Friday.

In other doubles play, Garcia and Iadevaia fell in the Round of 16 to the No. 12-seeded team from Glendale.

Garland and Thompson will begin play at the state championships on Thursday April 25.
