After a morning rain, the courts were dried and the Pirates' women's tennis team hosted Santa Monica College Thursday afternoon at the VC Tennis Center. On what turned out to be a picture perfect afternoon, Ventura defeated the Corsairs 6-3. Keressa Garland and Tanya Thompson produced wins at Nos. 4 and 3 singles, respectively, then teamed up to take the No. 2 doubles slot to lead the way for VC (5-10, 5-6).

Garland had little trouble in No 4 singles, winning her match 6-1, 6-1. Thompson, meanwhile, won her No. 3 singles contest 6-2, 6-3. Victoria Neumann dropped a 3-set heartbreaker and Aliyah Amaya fell in No. 2 singles. Ventura won the Nos. 5 and 6 singles matches by default.

In doubles, Thompson and Graland captured the No. 2 slot when an injury forced one of their opponents to retire. VC won the No. 3 doubles point by default to settle the final margin.

Ventura next travels to Antelope Valley on Tuesday March 26 before hosting Bakersfield on Thursday March 28.
