Women's Tennis Drops First WSC Match of 2019

VC Freshman Tanya Thompson narrowly dropped her No. 4 singles match Tuesday against Santa Barbara, 7-6, 6-3.

The Pirates' women's tennis team battled cool and blustery conditions at the VC Tennis Center Tuesday, facing Santa Barbara City College in the Western State Conference opener for both teams. Ventura battled, but ultimately was swept by the Vaquero's 9-0. Tanya Thompson extended her opponent to a tiebreak in the first set before falling in No. 4 singles 7-6, 6-3 and Aliyah Amaya took her opponent in No. 5 singles to a second-set tiebreaker.

In doubles play, Amaya and Alexis Hernandez nearly earned a point, falling 9-8.

the Pirates continue WSC play on Thursday Feb. 7 at Glendale College.
