The Pirates' women's tennis team dropped its opening match of the season 8-1 to visiting Fullerton College Friday at the VC Tennis Center. Tanya Thompson earned Ventura's lone point of the day with a 6-3, 4-6, 11-9 tiebreaking victory in No. 3 singles.

The doubles team of Victoria Neumann and Cali Iadevaia lost a narrow 8-5 decision in No. 2 doubles.

VC begins its Western State Conference play on Tuesday Feb. 5, hosting Santa Barbara at 2:00 pm at the VC Tennis Center.
