At times, team scores in tennis can be deceiving. Case in point is Ventura's 8-1 loss at Glendale on Tuesday. Despite the lopsided appearance of the final count, the match was much closer. Tricia McClain claimed a win in No. 6 singles, while Lea Meschke (No. 1) and Alyssa Powell (No. 2) dropped close three-set contests in singles. Additionally, Powell and Allie De Marco dropped an 8-6 decision in No. 1 doubles for VC (7-5, 5-3).

McClain captured the Pirates lone point of the match with a 7-5, 6-2 victory in No. 6 singles. Meschke took the first set of her No. 1 singles match 7-6 before dropping the next two, 6-2 and 6-2. Meanwhile, Powell dropped her opening set at no. 2 singles before evening the match 6-4 in the second. She eventually lost the match 6-2 in the third set. In No. 4 singles, Jule Lauinger fell in the first set 7-5 before dropping the match 6-2.

The Pirates will next host Santa Barbara on Thursday March 8 at the VC Tennis Center. Singles matches are slated to begin at 2:00 pm.
