Bailey Sindle and Lea Meschke upset their way into the round of 32 Thursday in doubles competition at the CCCAA State Championships held at The Ojai Tournament Thursday . Playing at the VC Tennis Center for the first two days of the draw, the Pirate duo defeated the No. 13 seed in the Round of 64 to advance in play Friday. Meanwhile, Sindle won a pair of matches in the singled bracket to continue her season on Friday as well.
Sindle and Meschke, VC's top doubles team, received a first round bye before defeating the No. 13 seed from Cosumnes River, 6-3, 6-0. Meanwhile VC teammates Allie De Marco and Luciana Muheison lost their first round match to a team from Santa Rosa in a thriller, 7-5, 3-6, 10-5. The doubles pair of Megan Fleming and Alyssa Powell fell in the Round of 64, 6-3, 6-3, to a team from Fresno following a first round bye.
In singles play, Sindle defeated an opponent from Santa Rosa 6-3, 6-0 in her first match of the day before upsetting the No. 8 seed from team state champion Orange Coast in come-from-behind fashion, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2. Meschke, Ventura's other entrant in the singles draw, got a victory in the first round over an opponent from El Camino, love and one, before falling to Irvine Valley, 6-4, 6-4.
Sindle will continue her singles play in The Ojai early on Friday April 28 at the VC Tennis Center before Meschke joins for doubles action in the afternoon.
