In between rain storms, the Pirates' women's tennis team opened their 2017 schedule with a 7-2 loss to visiting Santa Barbara in a match that was much closer than the score indicated. Bailey Sindle won in No. 1 singles 6-1, 7-5 and Luciana Muheison was victorious in No. 6 singles 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 for VC (0-1, 0-1).
Ventura was close in all three doubles matches. In the No. 1 slot, Sindle and Theresa Doal fell 9-7, and Megan Fleming and Alyssa Powell dropped a 9-8 decision in No. 2 doubles. Allie De Marco and Muheison were defeated in No. 3 doubles 8-5.
In singles, Lea Meschke dropped a three-set match at the No. 2 position, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, and De Marco was defeated at No. 5, also in three sets, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4.
VC will host San Diego Mesa at 12:00 noon on Friday Feb. 10, weather permitting, and travel to Cypress on Tuesday Feb. 14.
