No. 3-seed Mariko Sagara advanced to the round of 32 in singles play at the CCCAA State Tennis Championships at The Ojai Tournament Thursday. Meanwhile, she also teamed up with doubles partner Jessica Powell to move to the same level in doubles competition at the state championships.
Sagara received a first round bye before advancing 6-2, 6-2 over an opponent from Saddleback College. She will attempt to move to the quarterfinals with matches at 8:00 and and 11:00 am at Buena High School Friday April 22.
Meanwhile, Sagara and Powell, seeded No. 13, also moved into the round of 32 with a bye and a win. The duo defeated a team from Modesto 6-0, 6-0 to move forward. They will play the round of 32 at 1:00 pm at the VC Tennis Center against the No. 4 seed in the draw.
The Ojai continues through Sunday April 24.
