Women's Tennis Wins Nail Biter Over San Diego Mesa

On a cool Saturday afternoon the Ventura College women's tennis team played a hotly contested match against San Diego Mesa scratching out a 5-4 win. Ventura rode the strong performances of Jia Wiebe and Megan Fleming who teamed up to win their No. 2 doubles match and then Wiebe earned a win at No. 3 singles. Theresa Doal was a winner in both doubles and singles play.

VC (6-7, 4-3) was playing a make up contest from an earlier rain out against San Diego Mesa and despite their struggles at the No. 1 doubles and No. 1 and 2 singles play their back end of the line up helped the Pirates to a win. Wiebe and Fleming were able to get the Pirates on track in doubles play with a 8-3 win. Doal teamed with Tricia McClain for a 8-0 win in doubles play.

Then in singles play Wiebe claimed her contest at No. 3 singles in straight sets by scores of 7-6 and 6-3. Audrey Karbum won in dominant fashion at No. 5 singles with scores of 6-1, 6-0 and then with Theresa Doal claiming a straight sets win at No. 6 singles the Pirates won the match.

Ventura now returns to Western State Conference play with a road contest on Tuesday Mar. 15 against Glendale College at 2:00 pm. Then on Thursday Mar. 17 they play host to Santa Monica College at 2:00 pm.
