Traveling to Orange County to take on Saddleback the Ventura College women's tennis team dropped a 5-4 decision. Mariko Sagara won at No. 1 doubles and No. 1 singles for the Pirates. Jia Wiebe picked up a straight sets win at No. 3 singles.
Ventura (3-6, 2-2) played back to back matches following a win over Santa Monica the Pirates went on the road for a tough test against Saddleback. The Pirates No. 1 singles team of Sagara and Jessica Powell got VC off to a strong start with a 8-2 win. Ventura though fell in the next two doubles matches heading into singles play.
Sagara won again at No. 1 singles to tie the match at 2-2, but Ventura was only able to win two more of the final five singles contests. Wiebe claimed a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles. While Tricia McClain claimed a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles for the Pirates.
Ventura will play their next two contests in Western State Conference play starting with a Tuesday Mar. 1 match against Bakersfield College at 2:00 pm. Then they return home on Tuesday Mar. 8 for a 2:00 pm match against Antelope Valley.
