VC freshman Mariko Sagara reached elite status Friday with a pair of wins in the CCCAA State Championships at The Ojai Tournament. With the two victories, the draw's No. 3-seed advanced to the Elite Eight round, with the quarterfinals scheduled for Saturday Apr. 23 at The Ojai Athleic Club.

Ventura College is set to host the 2016 Western State Conference Tennis Championships Friday April 1 and Saturday April 2, finishing up with men's ans women's singles and doubles championships on Friday April 8. Preliminary rounds on April 1 and 2 will be held at the Ventura College Tennis Center and at El Camino Real Park.

The No. 1 doubles of Mariko Sagara and Jessica Powell claimed a 8-5 win. Jia Wiebe and Megan Fleming were 9-8 winner at No. 2 doubles.

VC swept doubles play lead by the team of Mariko Sagara and Jessica Powell with an 8-1 win in No. 1 doubles. Jia Wiebe and Megan Fleming earned a 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles. At No. 3 doubles the team of Theresa Doal and Tricia McClain won by a score of 8-5.

Responding in the final match of the weekend with a 5-1 win over Chabot. Mariko Sagara claimed a pair of wins at No. 1 singles and was a part of a split of wins at No. 1 doubles.
The Ventura College women's tennis team dropped their home opener of the 2016 season with a 5-3 loss to De Anza.. Jia Wiebe won her singles match as the Pirates No. 3 player. The Pirates claimed two singles matches and one doubles match.
Ventura College women's tennis team opened their 2016 team by traveling to Riverside College and were defeated 9-0. The Pirates were able to put forth a great effort on the doubles side of the match, but just were not able to overcome the Tigers.
