The Pirates' women's tennis team ended the regular season with a 9-0 sweep at Bakersfield College Tuesday afternoon. VC dropped just four games the entire match against the Renegades in finishing the year at 7-6 overall and 5-5 in Western State Conference play.
VC swept the competition love and love in Nos. 2 through 6 singles, with Yannick Garcia (No. 2), Bailey Sindle (No. 3), Jia Wiebe (No. 4), Candace Nito (No. 5) and Chelsea Peterson (No. 6) all shutting out their opponents. Katy Scheck only dropped three games in her 6-1, 6-2 win in No. 1 singles.
In doubles, Garcia and Sindle 9No. 1), Scheck and Wiebe (No. 2) and Cristina Ortiz and Jessica Powell (No. 3) all prevailing by wide margins.
The Pirates now await the Western State Conference Singles and Doubles Tournaments beginning Friday April 3 at the VC Tennis Center.
