Pirate Tennis Wins Over Defending Champs

Chelsea Peterson came from behind to win in No. 6 singles to help propel the Pirates to a 5-4 win at Santa Monica on Thursday afternoon.

The VC women's tennis team has been on the verge of a big win, and Thursday they got in in Santa Monica against the defending Western State Conference champions.  Chelsea Peterson came back from 4-6, 1-4 down to win in No. 6 singles 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, and Katy Scheck and Jia Wiebe overcame a 5-7 deficit, winning 16 of the final 17 points to post a 9-7 victory in No. 2 doubles to clinch the match.

Other points were earned in singles competition by Yannick Garcia (No. 2), Bailey Sindle (No. 3) and Wiebe (No. 4).  Candace Nito was close in No. 5 singles, falling 7-5, 6-3, and Garcia and Sindle dropped No. 1 doubles by a score of 8-6.

Ventura closed conference play on Tuesday March 24 at Bakersfield College.  They will return home for the WSC singles and doubles tournament which begins Friday April 3 at the VC Tennis Center.
