Pirates Down Pierce in Halloween Contest

The Ventura College women's soccer team posted a tough 2-1 Halloween-night victory over Los Angeles Pierce College at the Sportsplex Tuesday. Jennifer Galindo had a goal and an assist to lead the Pirates (9-5-5, 4-3-3) as they remain in the thick of the playoff chase earning the three points in the Western State Conference table. Isa Garcia anchored the triumph in goal and the VC defense limited the Brahmas to four shots on goal during the game.

The teams, who played to a 1-1 draw on October 6, played another physical contest with neither team able to find the inside of the net in the first half of play.

Ventura struck quickly after intermission, however as Andrea Ibarra assisted a goal by Galindo on the first attack of the half.

Pierce answered the score in the 49th minute before Galindo assisted Daisy Vaca's game-winning score nine minutes later.

Garcia recorded two saves in goal with the Brahmas connecting for four shots on target, scoring just once. The Pirates totaled nine shots in the game, with five on goal.

Ventura will host its final home game of the season on Friday Nov. 3 against Oxnard. Kickoff is slated for 5:30 pm at the Sportsplex.
